Chaudary Caters

We are here in Shahpur village near Karnal. It’s a quiet place most days until someone has a wedding or a big function. That’s when things get busy for us at Chaudary Caters. We started doing this a long time ago because people needed someone to cook for large groups without making it complicated. My uncle used to do the cooking and now we all help out. The kitchen is usually full of smoke and the smell of spices. We don't have a fancy office or anything, just our space here in the village. Sometimes the weather makes it hard when we have to cook outside under the tents. We use big iron pots that have been with us for years. People in Haryana like their food simple and heavy, so that’s what we do. It’s mostly about making sure there is enough for everyone to eat. We spend a lot of time cleaning lentils and chopping vegetables early in the morning. Life in Sirsi is slow but we like it this way. Usually, we know most of the families who call us. It feels good when a party goes well and the plates come back empty. We just try to keep the food tasting like home. It’s hard work standing on your feet all day near the fire but it’s what we know how to do. The kids in the village often peak in to see what’s cooking. We just keep going.
