We are over here in Kanpur, right in the middle of things at the 208023 zip code area. Shailendra Singh Inter College Education Center isn't one of those flashy places you see in the magazines. It is just a solid building where kids from around the neighborhood come every morning. You'll see the cycle rickshaws dropping students off early, and there is always a bit of dust in the air when the wind picks up. Inside, the classrooms are plain with wooden benches that have been around for quite a while. We spend a lot of time just keeping things running, making sure the chalk is stocked and the fans are working when it gets really hot in the afternoons. It gets loud during the break, which is normal for a school like this. Parents stop by the office to talk about fees or how their kids are doing, and we just handle it one person at a time. It’s a busy spot. Some days are more organized than others, honestly. We have been in this part of Kanpur for some time now, so most people around here know exactly where we are without needing a map. It’s just a place for learning without all the extra noise or fancy decorations that some other centers have. We keep the gates open early and lock them up once the last staff member leaves in the evening. There is always something to fix or a desk to move, but that is part of the job.
