Dhanalakshmi Weaving Works

Down in P. O. Kakkat, things move a little slower than in the big cities. That is where Dhanalakshmi Weaving Works is located. We have been doing this for a long time. The sound of the looms is the soundtrack to our lives. It is a steady rhythm that you just get used to after a few days. We don't have a big office or anything. It is mostly just the work floor where the weaving happens. Most of the people working here live nearby, so we all know each other. Kakkat is a quiet place for the most part, except for when the machines are running. We focus on the weaving because that is the skill we have. Sometimes the threads break and we have to stop everything to fix them, which can be a bit tedious, but it is part of the job. We get our mail at the local post office and that is pretty much our main point of contact with the outside world. There is no marketing team here. We just show up, do the weaving, and make sure the finished pieces look the way they are supposed to. The sun sets early over the fields nearby, and that is usually when we start packing up for the day. It is simple work, but it requires a lot of patience and steady hands. We are just regular people making fabrics in a small corner of the world. It is enough for us.
