Agfa Textiles

We are based out in Tuthiyatheru, near the Chirakal Post Office. Agfa Textiles is a small operation compared to the big factories in the cities. Our building is simple, with a tin roof that makes a lot of noise when it rains. We’ve been here for a while, and most of the people who work here live just a short walk away. We work with a variety of textiles, mostly stuff that people use for everyday things. The work is repetitive but it’s what we know. We start our day by checking the machines and making sure there is enough thread. Sometimes the thread snaps and we have to spend ten minutes re-threading everything with old eyes. It’s frustrating but you get used to it. We don’t have a big office or a receptionist. If the phone rings, whoever is closest picks it up. Chirakal is a quiet place and we like it that way. The Post Office is just a stone's throw away, so at least sending out letters and small samples is easy. We have an old clock on the wall that is always five minutes fast, but we never bother to fix it. Usually, our hands are stained with some kind of dye or just dirt from the floor. We keep the doors open for air, so sometimes a stray cat wanders in. We just shoo them out and get back to work. It’s a quiet life.
