The A P Social Welfare Residential Schools for girls is on Korukinda Road in Rajahmundry. If you know the area, you know how busy that road can get with all the traffic. Once you step inside the school gates, though, it’s a bit different. It’s a residential place, so the girls live here full-time during the term. The buildings are typical for this part of the country, with high ceilings and wide windows to let in whatever breeze there is. Rajahmundry can be very humid, so the fans are almost always running. The walls are covered in student drawings and old notices that have been there for years. The playground is mostly dirt, but it’s where everyone gathers in the evening. There’s a lot of noise during meal times in the dining hall. The staff stays busy with the administrative side of things and making sure the hostel runs okay. We have some old trees on the property that provide good shade. It’s an honest sort of place where things are done the old-fashioned way. No fancy computers or modern furniture here, just the basics. The girls look after their own spaces in the dorms. It’s a lot of responsibility for them. We just try to keep the environment stable so they can focus on their books. It’s a simple, everyday kind of school for everyone involved.
