Thar School

Living out here in Osian, you get used to the desert heat and the long road back toward Jodhpur. Thar School sits right on that main Jodhpur Road. It’s a convenient spot for the families living around this part of Jodhpur. We started this place because there was a need for a school that actually understood what life is like in this region. Every morning, the sun hits the building and we start our routine. We aren't a big corporate chain. It’s mostly local folks working here who care about the kids from the nearby villages and the town. Sometimes the wind picks up and we have to shut the windows tight against the sand, but that’s just life in Rajasthan. The classrooms are simple. We focus on getting the basics right. If a desk breaks, one of us fixes it. If the garden needs watering, we take turns. It’s a very hands-on way of running things. People stop by on their way into town to ask questions or just to say hello. We like that it feels like a part of the neighborhood. The kids run around the yard during breaks, and it gets pretty loud, but it’s a good kind of noise. We try to keep things organized, though some days are more chaotic than others. That’s just how it goes when you’re dealing with a school full of energy. We’re just here doing our bit on the road to Jodhpur, helping out where we can for the local families.
