Our place is at 35-B in the Heavy Industrial Area. It’s right across from where the Riico staff quarters are. Usually, the morning starts with the sound of trucks and people heading to their shifts. The workshop gets pretty warm in the afternoon because of all the machines and the sun hitting the roof. We don’t have fancy carpets or a nice lobby. It’s mostly concrete and steel around here. We’ve got some desks pushed into the corner where we keep the books. The staff quarters across the street make it easy to tell people where we are. We see the same faces every day, mostly guys working in the other units nearby. When the power goes out, which happens sometimes, everyone stands outside for a bit. We spend a lot of time checking the pieces and making sure everything is where it should be. The floor is always a bit messy with scraps and tools, but we know where everything is. It’s not a showroom, just a spot where the actual work happens. Sometimes the rain makes a lot of noise on the tin roof, and we have to shout to hear each other. We eat our lunch together in the small back room. It’s a plain existence, but it keeps us busy. We stay until the sun goes down most days and the industrial area starts to go quiet.
