Thar Oasis Resort And Camp

Our place is out in Village-Gumanpura in Dechu. If you haven't been to this part of the desert, it is very quiet and wide open. We have the resort and the camps set up right on the sand. Life here moves a bit slower than in the city. We spend our mornings checking the tents and making sure the kitchen has what it needs. The sand gets everywhere, no matter how much we sweep. It’s just part of living in Gumanpura. We have local guys working with us who know the land better than anyone. They help with the camels and the evening fires. It is not a shiny hotel with elevators. It is more about the open sky and the smell of woodsmoke in the evening. The wind can get quite strong sometimes, making the tent fabric flap. We spend a lot of time outside, just keeping an eye on things. The water comes from a well nearby, and we have to be careful with it. Our office is a small room with a heavy wooden door to keep the dust out. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot of our notes are still kept in paper diaries. It is a basic way of living, but it works for us out here in Dechu. We like the stillness of the nights when the work is finally done.
