The Ummed Jodhpur Hotel

We are out here on the Jaipur Highway, right by Banar Road in the Prem Nagar area of Jodhpur. It gets pretty hot during the day, so we spend a lot of time making sure the lobby stays cool for anyone stopping by. This building has been part of the landscape for a while now, and you can see it clearly as you come down the road. Most of us who work here have been in the city our whole lives. We know the shortcuts and where the best snacks are down the street. It’s not a fancy corporate office where everyone wears stiff suits. Usually, you’ll see us moving luggage or checking on the kitchen to see if the tea is ready. The courtyard gets a nice breeze sometimes in the evening, which is when most people like to sit out. We keep the rooms tidy and make sure the lights are working. Sometimes the desert wind blows a lot of sand around, so we are always sweeping the entrance. It's a lot of work keeping a place this size running smoothly, but we've got a rhythm down. The highway is busy, so there’s always noise from the trucks and cars passing by at night. We just go about our business, making sure the gates are open and the staff is ready for whoever pulls in. It’s just how things go at The Ummed Jodhpur Hotel every single day. We don't do much fancy talking, we just do the work and wait for the sun to set.
