Gulabi Devi Degree College

You can find us out in Siddiquepur, right in the Jaunpur area of Uttar Pradesh. It’s a place for students who have finished school and are looking to get their degrees without traveling too far from home. The college stays pretty busy during the semester with young people coming in from the nearby villages. We have regular classrooms and a few offices where the staff handles all the paperwork. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to wait it out, which is pretty common around here. The campus has some open space where students hang out between their lectures. It’s not a very huge place, but it serves the purpose for everyone living in this part of the district. We see a lot of students who are the first in their families to go to college, so there is always a lot of talk about exams and future jobs in the corridors. The gates open early and we usually wrap things up by late afternoon. Dealing with all the university forms and registration can be a bit of a headache sometimes, but we get through it. The building is solid enough, though the stairs get a lot of wear and tear from all the foot traffic. It’s just a straightforward place for higher education where people come to study and move on with their lives. We don't have fancy cafes, just some benches and a bit of shade under the trees.
