Kapur Traders

Kapur Traders is located right in the middle of the action at Uppal Market. We are very close to the bus stop, which means there is never a quiet moment. Between the buses pulling in and the crowds of people walking by, it’s always a bit chaotic. Our shop is old and we’ve got stuff piled up in every corner. We handle a lot of different trading goods, so you never really know what might be arriving on a truck next. It’s a small space, but we make the most of it by stacking things high. We don't have a website or any of those modern things. We just open the shutters in the morning and start talking to the people who stop in. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to the Uppal Market for years. We know many of them by name. The air is full of the smell of the market—tea, exhaust fumes, and whatever the street vendors are cooking nearby. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we have a small fan that mostly just moves the warm air around. We do our own bookkeeping in thick paper ledgers and keep our receipts in old boxes. It’s a simple way of doing things, but it has worked for us for a long time. If you’re ever near the bus stop, you can’t miss us; we’re the ones with the busy storefront and the stacks of boxes out front.
