Srinivasa Modern Rice Mill

We are located down on Ekheri Pulli Road, not far from the timber market. You can usually hear the machines running before you even see our main gate. It is a dusty place, as you would expect with a rice mill, but we keep it running as best as we can every day. We spend a lot of time out in the yard watching the trucks come in loaded with grain from the fields. The sun gets really hot out there, especially in the afternoons, so we try to stay in the shade when possible. We have a small office near the front where we keep the records, but mostly we are out on the floor making sure the hulling and polishing is going right. The timber market nearby means there is always a lot of heavy traffic and noise on our road. It is a working-class area and we fit right in with the rest of the businesses. We have had some of the same guys working the machines for years now. They know the sounds of the engines better than anyone else here. When the harvest season hits, it is non-stop work from morning until late at night for everyone. We do not really have a lot of time for formalities or fancy talk. It is just about getting the rice processed and out the door to the buyers. The floors are always covered in a bit of husk and the air smells like grain. It is hard work.
