About Kumar Rice Mill – Agriculture & Farming in Jalandhar
Kumar Rice Mill sits right on Nakodar Road, directly across from the Uco Bank. If you are driving by, you can't miss the sound of the machinery or the dust in the air during the busy season. We have been milling rice here for years, and the place has a lot of character, mostly in the form of worn-out floorboards and stained walls. It is a noisy, dusty environment, but that is the reality of processing grain. We take in raw paddy from the local areas and turn it into the rice that people eat. It is a messy process, and we are usually covered in some kind of husk or dust by the end of the day. There is no air conditioning in the main mill area, so it gets pretty hot in the summer months. We don't really have a front office for visitors, just a small space where we keep the books and handle payments. Most of our work is done by hand or with the older machines that we’ve learned to maintain ourselves over the years. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill in the province; we just want to do a decent job for the farmers who bring us their crops. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and long hours when the harvest comes in. We take pride in the fact that we’ve stayed open this long while others have closed up. It’s just a hard, honest way to make a living.
