Damini Beauty Salon & Training Academy is set up at 120, Gurjai Pal Nagar in Jalandhar. We’re quite easy to find since we’re near the railway crossing and right opposite Ghooman Hospital. The sound of the trains passing by is something we’ve just gotten used to over the years, though it still makes the windows rattle a bit every now and then. This place serves two purposes. We have the salon side where women from the neighborhood come to get their hair or makeup done, and then we have the academy side. We spend a lot of our time teaching young girls from the city how to do threading, waxing, and hair styling so they can go out and get jobs themselves. It’s a busy house, often filled with the smell of hair spray and the sound of several people talking at once. It’s not a corporate environment; it’s more like a big family where everyone is trying to learn something or look their best for a wedding. We don't have a big budget for ads, so most people find out about us by word of mouth or by seeing the sign when they’re stuck at the railway crossing. The rooms are a bit cramped when we have a full class, but we make it work because the goal is just to help people learn the trade. It’s a plain, hardworking shop that’s been part of the community for quite a while.
