Mideast Integrated Steel Limited is located right near the Ferrochrome Colony Gate over at Panasia. It’s a part of the Jajpur Road area that is very industrial. To find us, you just look for the gate and the F.C. Project post office nearby. We are in a busy part of Orissa where there is always a lot of movement. The steel business here is intense. There is smoke and noise and heavy trucks coming in and out all day long. We don’t have any shiny office buildings. It’s mostly just corrugated metal sheds and piles of iron. The work is tough and the shifts are long. We spend most of our time out on the floor or near the yard. Dealing with Narahar Behera and the rest of the crew, you realize how much work goes into making steel. It’s a community of workers here. We all drink tea at the same spots. The dust gets everywhere, even in your shoes. We don’t try to pretend we are something we aren’t. We are just a steel plant trying to keep the production moving. Sometimes the rains in Orissa make the yard a muddy mess, and that slows everything down. But we just push through it. It’s a practical, no-nonsense environment. Most of us have been working in steel for years, so it’s just second nature to us now.
