Vandana Kala Kendra

Johari Bazar is always packed, and Ghee Walon Ka Rasta is no different. You’ll find us at 5 New Market. It’s right in the thick of it. Vandana Kala Kendra is what we call this little space. Living and working in this part of town means you get used to the constant sound of rickshaws and people talking loudly outside. The shop is tucked away in the market, so you have to look for it a bit. It’s not one of those big modern showrooms with glass walls. We have our shelves and our stools, and that’s about it. Most of the day is spent talking to people who wander in or checking on the things we have in stock. It gets dusty because of the market being so open, so we are always wiping things down. We’ve been here long enough that the other shopkeepers are like family. We share tea and complain about the heat in the summer. It’s an honest way to spend the day. There’s a lot of history in these old markets, and we feel like a tiny part of it. We don’t have a website or a fancy catalog. If you want to see what we have, you just come by and we’ll show you. It’s much easier that way. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, but we just wait it out. That's life in the bazar for us, and we are quite used to it by now.
