Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya

You can find us at D-232 on Kalidas Marg in the Bani Park area. Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya has been part of this neighborhood for a good while. It’s a place where we teach music and dance to whoever wants to learn. We have different rooms for different instruments, so sometimes you’ll hear a sitar in one corner and someone practicing vocals in another. It’s not a silent place, that’s for sure. Bani Park is a nice, established part of town, and being on Kalidas Marg makes it easy for people to reach us. We don't have a big corporate structure. It’s mostly just the teachers and the students. We spend our days going through scales and rhythms. The building itself is an older one, which fits the kind of traditional music we often focus on. We don't go in for much flash or showy stuff. It’s about the practice and the time you put in. Sometimes we have small gatherings where students show what they’ve learned, but it’s all very informal. We just want to keep the music going. If you drop by, you might see instruments leaning against the walls or sheet music scattered around. It’s a lived-in space. We aren't trying to be the biggest school in the country. We just like what we do here in our little corner of Jaipur. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day.
