Surbhi Sangeet Sanstha

This music center is situated at 64/241 in Pratap Nagar, Sanganer. It is a humble place, not a big institution. We have been teaching music here for a long time. The rooms are filled with instruments and the smell of old wood. We don’t have air conditioning or fancy sound systems. Just the music and the students. People from around Sanganer come here in the afternoons. It can get a bit crowded on Saturdays. We teach in a very traditional way, sitting on the floor mostly. It’s not about being the best, it’s just about learning the notes properly. We have some old posters on the walls and a lot of sheet music piled up in the corners. Sometimes the neighbors hear us practicing late into the evening. We don’t really do any big advertising. If someone wants to learn, they usually just walk in or ask a friend who already comes here. The building is just a regular house in Pratap Nagar that we turned into a school. It feels like home to us. We spend our days going over the same ragas and songs until they sound right. It takes time and effort, but we do not mind. It’s a quiet life centered around the instruments and the students. We’ve been here for many years and hope to stay for many more, just playing music.
