S Kumar Textile Mills

S Kumar Textile Mills is up on the first floor of the Khandelwal School Building. It’s right on Station Road, so it is always loud with the trains and the traffic below. Walking up those stairs every morning really wakes you up. The building has a lot of history and you can feel it in the walls. We have our looms and fabric rolls spread out across the floor. It is a bit cramped sometimes because we have so much material coming in and out. The light comes in through the big windows, which is nice in the winter but makes it a bit hot in the summer months. We deal with a lot of local merchants who come by to see what we have ready. Sometimes the tea man comes up and we take a short break, but mostly we are just busy with the machines. It is a family thing, really. We grew up around the smell of cotton and the sound of the equipment running all day. It’s not a quiet job, that is for sure. Most of the time we are shouting over the noise just to hear each other talk. We try to keep things organized, but with textiles, there is always some lint or thread on the floor. It is just part of the life here on Station Road. We have been in this same spot for years and don't plan on moving anywhere else.
