Rachana Stones

Rachana Stones is located at G-130 in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area extension, over in Badarana. It is a dusty place, as you can imagine with all the stone cutting and moving we do. We have big slabs of granite and marble leaning against the walls. Some are rough and some are polished. We spend a lot of time out in the yard under the sun. It is heavy, physical work. The sound of the saws cutting through stone is pretty constant throughout the day. We all wear earplugs but you can still feel the vibration in the floor. The office is just a small room partitioned off from the main shed. It has got a couple of chairs and a table where we show customers samples. There is always a thin layer of stone dust on everything, no matter how much we clean. We have been here for a good few years now. We know the other business owners on this street well. We help each other out when a machine breaks down or someone needs a hand with a heavy lift. It is not a glamorous job, but there is something nice about working with natural materials. We just take the orders, cut the stone to the right size, and get it ready for transport. It is a simple process, even if the stones themselves are heavy and hard to move. We just do our work and head home at the end of the shift. No one here is looking for anything fancy.
