N.S. Gents Saloon

This barbershop is tucked away on Top Khane Ka Rasta in the Indira Bazar area. We are quite close to the Darbar School, so you can often hear the kids playing during their break times while I work. I have been cutting hair here for many years, following after my father who had this shop before me. It is a small space with three old chairs and big mirrors that have some spots on them from age. We do not do anything fancy, just standard haircuts and shaves for the men who live and work around here. On Sundays, the shop gets very crowded and people have to wait on the wooden bench outside. I keep some old newspapers and magazines around for them to read while they wait their turn. The floor is often covered in hair because I do not always have time to sweep between every single customer when it is busy. Indira Bazar is a very loud and hectic part of Jaipur, but inside the shop, it feels familiar and comfortable to me. I use regular soaps and creams that you find in any local store around the corner. My scissors are old but I keep them very sharp for the jobs. I do not have a computer or a phone for bookings, so people just walk in when they need a trim. It is honest work and it keeps me connected to the people.
