New Pratap Nursery

New Pratap Nursery is right on Tonk Road in Lakshmi Nagar. It is pretty easy to find because of all the green plants sitting out near the main road. The traffic on Tonk Road is always moving fast, but once you step inside the nursery, it feels a little bit quieter, even with the car horns in the background. We spend almost all our time outside in the dirt. My hands are usually stained with mud or compost, and that is just how it is when you work with plants. We have rows of saplings, some flowers, and bigger trees that we keep in black plastic bags. Watering takes up a huge chunk of our morning before the sun gets too high. We also have a lot of pots, some clay ones and some plastic ones, stacked up in the corner. People stop their cars and come in to ask what will grow best in their small balconies or if we have something that doesn't need much water. We don't have a big fancy office, just a small shed where we keep the tools and the ledger. It’s a lot of physical labor, carrying heavy bags of soil and moving plants around so they get enough shade. We’ve been at this spot for a long time now. It’s nice to see things grow from tiny seeds into something big, though it takes a lot of patience and everyday work.
