About Maya Embroidery Zari Works – Housewares & Supplies in Jaipur
If you walk down Chaura Rasta and turn into Sonthali Walon Ka Rasta, you’ll find us at number 1633. Maya Embroidery Zari Works is a small place, and it’s usually quite crowded with rolls of fabric and spools of thread. The air inside smells a bit like old cloth and maybe some tea from the morning break. We don't have a big sign or a fancy lobby. It's just a workshop where people sit and work on zari patterns for hours. The light isn't always the best, so we use some extra lamps to see the tiny details on the fabric. Sometimes the street outside is so loud with people shouting and bikes honking that it’s hard to hear anything else. We’ve been in this part of the city for years. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but nobody really has the time to move all the equipment around to do it. We have heaps of different colored threads everywhere, and sometimes it feels like they’re taking over the room. It's honest work, and it's what we know how to do. Most of the folks working here have been doing this since they were young. We just sit, do the embroidery, and watch the day go by in the heart of the old market area. It's a bit messy, but that's just how a real workshop looks when people are actually using it every day.
