Indira Bazar is one of those old parts of Jaipur where the streets are narrow and the shops are tucked away. We are at G/20, and it’s a small space, mostly just a glass counter and some stools. We deal with mobile phones and all the little things that go with them. The walls are covered with hanging packets of earphones and cables. It’s usually quite crowded in the bazaar, so there’s always a bit of a squeeze to get inside. We don’t have a big team, just a couple of us who know how to handle the repairs and the sales. The floor is a bit worn out from all the people walking in and out over the years. We spend a lot of time cleaning screens and trying to find the right part for an old phone model that someone still wants to use. It’s not a polished corporate office. There’s a calendar on the wall and a small picture of a deity with some incense. We just do our work, talk to the customers, and watch the world go by outside the shop door. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a short break. It’s a simple way to run a shop in a busy market like this one. We keep the shop open late because that’s when the bazaar really comes to life with all the lights.
