We’ve been sitting here at No. 35 36 on Main Ajmer Road for a while now. Most people know the spot near Purani Chungi because the traffic usually slows down right in front of our shutters. Inside Kasba Furnishing, things are usually a bit cluttered. We have these heavy rolls of fabric leaning against the walls and swatches of cloth scattered on the counter. It isn't a fancy showroom with bright lights and fancy music. It’s just a place where we help people figure out what to put on their windows or how to fix up an old sofa that's seen better days. Some days the dust from the road gets in, and we spend half the morning just wiping down the surfaces. We get all sorts of folks coming in. Some know exactly what color they want, and others stand there staring at the racks for an hour. We don’t mind. It’s part of the job. The sewing machines in the back are usually humming along, and there’s always a bit of thread on the floor. We try to keep things organized, but when three different deliveries come in at once, it gets messy. That’s just how it goes here. We deal with curtains, cushions, and that kind of thing. It’s steady work, and being right here on the main road means we see plenty of familiar faces from the neighborhood stopping by just to say hello or ask for a price.
