Jaipur Vastra Bhandar

Jaipur Vastra Bhandar is located at number 18 in Purohitji Ka Katla, which is one of the busiest spots you can find in Johari Bazar. We are right near the National Handloom building, so it is easy to find if you know the area. The entrance to the katla is always crowded with people and rickshaws, making it a bit of a scramble just to get to work in the morning. Once you are inside our shop, it is just walls of fabric from floor to ceiling. We have to use long poles to reach the bundles at the top. The air is always full of a little bit of lint from all the cotton clothes being moved around. We do not have much room for fancy displays, so we just stack things neatly and hope people find what they like. It gets very hot in the afternoons, and the ceiling fans do not do much more than move the warm air around, but we are used to it. Customers usually come in groups, and the shop fills up fast, making it quite loud with everyone talking at once. We spend a lot of time measuring out lengths of cloth and cutting them with these heavy old shears that have been around forever. Between customers, we try to tidy up the scraps and reorganize the shelves. It is a simple, honest way to make a living in the middle of the city's most famous textile market.
