J R Exports is tucked away at 10 Transport Nagar. It’s a busy area, as you can probably guess from the name, and there’s always something moving nearby. We focus on getting goods ready to be sent out, which involves a lot of packing, checking, and double-checking weights and measures. It’s not the kind of work where you can afford to be lazy, because one small error in the paperwork can cause a big mess at the border or the port. The office is pretty basic, just some desks, some sturdy boxes, and a lot of tape. We spend a lot of time on the phone with shipping agents and customs people, trying to make sure everything is lined up. It gets pretty loud with the trucks idling outside, but you get used to it after a week or two. We aren't some massive international conglomerate with a glass building. We’re just a small team of people who know how to pack a container and get it where it needs to go. Sometimes we stay late when a big shipment is due to leave, and other times it’s quiet enough to actually sit down for a full lunch. We don't make big promises we can't keep. We just tell people when their stuff will likely arrive and then we do our part to make that happen. It’s honest work and it keeps us on our toes.
