Gavri Textile

Our place is at 14 Satyam House, right on Meera Marg. If you know the area, it’s just opposite the Brahmpuri Thana on Amer Road. Having the police station right there makes it easy to give directions. Things are pretty simple here at Gavri Textile. We mostly handle different types of fabrics throughout the week. The building itself, Satyam House, is one of those older structures where everyone knows everyone else. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially in the summer. We usually keep the fans running at full speed. We’ve got rolls of cloth stacked up against the walls. It’s not a very big space but we make it work. Most of our work involves checking the orders and making sure things are packed properly for transport. Sometimes the street outside gets blocked because of the tourist traffic going towards Amer Fort. It can be a bit of a headache when we’re trying to move stock. We don’t have a big staff. It’s just a few of us doing the daily chores. We don’t use any fancy computer systems for everything, a lot of it is still done in ledgers. It feels more real that way. We aren’t trying to be the biggest shop in Jaipur. We just want to get the work done and go home to our families. Every day is pretty much the same routine.
