About Craft Council Of Weavers & Artisans – Textile in Jaipur
We’ve been over here at Dudhlod House on Hawa Sadak for a while now. The office is in Flat S-2, and it’s usually pretty crowded with samples and stacks of paper. Most days it’s just us trying to coordinate with the weavers who are scattered all over. Some days the fans don’t really do enough against the heat, but we keep going anyway. There’s a lot of back and forth between us and the artisans. Sometimes the thread colors don't come out quite right or a loom breaks down, and we have to spend hours on the phone fixing things. It isn't a fancy setup. We just have a few desks and a lot of fabric rolls everywhere. The noise from the street downstairs is constant. People come in and out, mostly just to drop off finished pieces or pick up more raw material. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the weaves. My hands usually feel a bit rough from touching so much cotton and wool all day. It’s a lot of manual work that people don't really see when they look at a finished piece. We try to keep things organized but with so many different people involved, it gets a bit chaotic. Sometimes we lose a pen or a notebook under a pile of cloth. That’s just how it is here. We’re just a small group trying to keep the traditional way of making things alive in our own quiet way.
