About Chand Kiran Moorti Bhandar – Housewares & Supplies in Jaipur
If you walk down Prajapati Ki Gali near the 4th crossing, you’ll find us at number 1808. We are tucked away in Khanawala Ka Rasta, which is a place full of history and stone dust. Our family has been carving moortis here for a long time. The shop is always white with marble dust, and you can hear the tapping of hammers and chisels from morning until the sun goes down. We make all kinds of statues, mostly for local temples or for people’s homes. It’s slow work, and you can’t rush it if you want the faces to look right. We don’t have a website or a big sign; most people just know us by word of mouth. Sometimes the alley gets crowded with stone being delivered, but everyone in the neighborhood is used to it. We sit on the floor and work, just like the generations before us did. It’s not an easy job on the back or the hands, but there is something nice about seeing a figure emerge from a block of stone. We aren't trying to be some big factory. We just take our time with each piece. If you come by the 4th crossing, you’ll see the finished ones standing outside the door, waiting for their new homes. We don't use any fancy machinery, just the traditional tools we've always used.
