Ashoka Novelty

Finding us at 65 near the Glass Factory on Tonk Road isn't too hard, but you have to watch out for the traffic. This part of Jaipur is always moving. Ashoka Novelty has been sitting here for a good while, right near the GPO area. It’s a place where we keep all sorts of things, mostly small gifts and novelty items that you don't see everywhere. The building is a bit older, so the walls have some cracks and the floor isn't perfectly level, but it has a bit of character. I spend a lot of my time behind the main counter, watching the cars go by on Tonk Road. We get people who are heading to the post office and just stop in because they saw something in the window. It’s not a fancy shopping mall experience. It’s more of a place where you might have to dig through a basket to find what you want. I try to keep things in order, but with so many small items, it’s a bit of a struggle. My nephew helps me out on the weekends when it gets a bit busier. We don't do much advertising; people just know we are here because of the Glass Factory landmark. It’s a bit noisy with the trucks, but you get used to it after a week or two. We just keep the door open and wait to see who walks in through the front.
