We are tucked away at 43/50/1 Varun Path in Mansarovar. It is a residential kind of street, so it stays relatively peaceful compared to the main roads. We have been running Art India Fashions from this spot for quite a while. The space is filled with racks of clothes and piles of fabric that we are currently working on. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know how to handle the work. We spend a lot of time looking at patterns and trying to get the colors to look right. Mansarovar is a large place, so it took some time for people to realize we were here on Varun Path. Now we have regulars who stop by just to see what is new on the racks. We don't really do the whole corporate thing. If the tea is late, we wait for it. If a machine breaks, we fix it ourselves. It's a very hands-on way of doing things. The shop is a bit cluttered, but we know where everything is. We just try to make clothes that people will actually want to wear in their daily lives. We aren't trying to be on a runway in Delhi; we just want to do good work right here in our neighborhood. It's a simple business and we like it that way because it keeps things honest.
