Benaghara Balikuda Women Farmers Producer Company Limited is a group of us women from around Gopalpur and Sangrampur. We have got our little base at Udayanath Sahoo’s place in the Balikuda area. It’s mostly us local ladies who decided we could do more if we stuck together. We spend our mornings in the fields and then meet up to talk about the business side of things. It is a lot of juggling, honestly, between the kids, the house, and the farming. But we make it work because we have to. We grow all sorts of stuff depending on the month. Our hands are usually stained from the soil, and our backs might ache a bit, but we’re proud of what we’re doing. We do not have a fancy board room, just some benches where we sit and count out the earnings or plan the next seed buy. Sometimes it gets a bit loud when everyone is talking at once, but we usually figure things out. People in the village know us as the ones who are always busy. We handle everything from the planting to the selling, and we are learning as we go. It has been a big change from how things used to be, but it is a change for the better. We just want to see our families do okay and our crops grow tall. It’s simple work but it keeps us together and helps the local economy out a bit.
