R And D Apparels is based at No. 12 in the Readymade Complex over in Pardeshipura. It’s one of those busy industrial complexes where everyone is focused on getting things out the door. We have our unit there and it’s usually full of the sound of machines and people moving around. Being in Pardeshipura means we’re surrounded by other businesses doing similar things, so there’s always a lot of chatter about suppliers and deliveries. Our space isn't meant for showing off. It’s a working floor where the actual making happens. We spend our hours checking samples and making sure the batches are right. It gets hot in the summer and the complex is always crowded with trucks and delivery bikes. We’ve stayed at No. 12 because it works for us. The layout is simple and we know where everything is. We don't have a big front office or a receptionist. Usually, if you come by, you’ll find us right there with the clothes. We deal with the day-to-day stuff as it comes. Sometimes an order is late or a machine breaks, and we just fix it and keep going. It’s a basic way of working but it has kept us going in the Readymade Complex for a long time. We just focus on the task at hand and try to stay on top of the piles of fabric.
