Phou-Oibee Organic Producer Company Limited

You can find us at Kwakeithel Awang Thiyam Leikai, which is where we keep our main office at the Green Foundation. We are a group of farmers from the Imphal West area. The name Phou-Oibee comes from our focus on rice and the traditional ways of growing it. We don't use those strong fertilizers that make the ground go hard after a few years. It’s a slower way to farm, but the quality of the grain is much better. We spend most of our time out in the paddies, especially during the planting and harvest seasons. The company part of it is mostly to help us with the paperwork and finding places to sell the rice where people actually appreciate organic food. It’s just us, the local farmers, sitting around a table making decisions. There’s no corporate ladder here. If someone has a problem with their crop, we all try to figure out a natural way to fix it. The address in West Imphal is where we do the sorting and the bagging. It gets quite dusty when the machines are running, but it’s a good kind of busy. We’ve been working together for a while now and it’s better than trying to do it all by yourself. We aren't looking to get famous, just looking to keep our farms healthy and our families fed.
