Variety Sarees

Variety Sarees is located at 4-5-824 in the Badichowdi area. It is a hectic spot to work in every day. The building is old and the stairs nearby are a bit steep. We have sarees stacked all the way to the ceiling in some parts of the shop. It is hard to find a place to stand when we get a big shipment in from the mills. My uncle started this place years ago and now I am the one opening the shutters every morning. We talk to the other shopkeepers on the block a lot because we are all in the same boat. The tea guy knows exactly how much sugar we like. We don't use much technology here, mostly just pens and paper for the bills. The paper gets a bit yellowed over time. It gets very hot in the afternoons but the old ceiling fan works okay as long as you stay directly under it. We don't do anything special or flashy. We just put the items on the shelves and wait for people to come in. The street outside is always dug up or under repair, which brings in a lot of red dust. We spend half our time dusting the plastic covers on the sarees. It’s just a normal shop in a busy part of Hyderabad. We stay open late because that's when most people are out walking.
