Aika Couture

Our place is tucked away in Prashanth Colony, over in Balkampet. It’s a busy little spot in Ameerpet. We have been working out of this house, H No 7-1-235/A/C/B/1, for some time now. You’ll usually hear the sewing machines going as soon as you walk up the street. There are piles of fabric everywhere. Silks, cottons, and lots of threads in every color you can think of. We spend most of our mornings cutting patterns and marking the cloth with chalk. It gets a bit messy on the floor with all the scraps, but that’s just how it is when you’re making clothes. People from around the neighborhood stop in for their measurements. We have a couple of mirrors set up so they can see how the fit is looking. It's not a big showroom or anything like that. Just a workroom where we get things stitched. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but we usually stay late to finish the orders. My hands are always busy with needles and pins. We do a lot of blouses and suits. Each one takes time. You have to be careful with the beads and the lace or it won't look right. It's just us here, working through the day to get the dresses ready for whoever is picking them up. It is honest work and we enjoy seeing the finished clothes when people come to get them.
