Upendra Handlooms & Textiles

Upendra Handlooms & Textiles is located in Flat No. 302 of the Kalavathi Residency. We are in the IICT Colony in Boduppal. It is a bit unusual because we aren't in a shop on the ground floor. We work out of our apartment. We’ve turned a good portion of the flat into a workspace. There are looms in the living area and stacks of textiles in the spare rooms. It’s a little crowded but it makes it easy to work whenever we want. We focus on traditional handloom work, which is a slow process. We don't have any loud industrial machines. The main sound you’ll hear is the clicking of the wooden looms. It’s a very peaceful way to work compared to a factory. Our neighbors in the building are used to us and the deliveries of yarn. Sometimes new customers have a bit of trouble finding the right flat, but we usually meet them at the entrance. We aren't a big company with lots of staff. It’s just a few of us who know how to weave. We spend a lot of time checking the colors in the natural light from the balcony. It’s a quiet and slow business, and we prefer it that way. We do things the traditional way because that’s how we were taught. It’s a lot of work but it feels right to keep the old methods going in our small home-based setup.
