It’s a quiet enough street, which is good because the kind of work we do needs a lot of focus. Customers usually bring in their own fabric or look at what we have on the tables. We spend a lot of time hunched over the frames, making sure every stitch is in the right place. It’s not the kind of work you can rush. Chintal has a lot of small shops like ours, but we’ve carved out our own little space here in Dee Colony. The light in the afternoon is usually the best for seeing the fine details on the sarees. Sometimes the local ladies come by just to see what new patterns we are working on. We don’t have a big showroom with lights and glass; it’s more of a workshop where things actually get made. My hands are usually stained with a bit of dye or marked by needles, but that’s just part of the trade. We take orders and try to get them done by the time people need them for weddings or local functions. It’s a steady pace of life here, and we like it that way. Just honest work and good fabric.
