We have been here at shop number ten in the municipal building for a while now. If you know Kamatipura road in Mangalhat, you know it gets quite loud with all the traffic passing by throughout the day. The shop sits right opposite the police station road. Most days start with us unlocking the shutters and sweeping out the dust that blows in from the street. There are a few chairs lined up and the mirrors always need a wipe down first thing every morning. People from around the neighborhood stop in, some just to say hello or check the time on our wall clock. We keep things pretty simple here. There is usually a radio playing in the background or just the sound of the fans humming overhead. When the sun hits the street outside, it gets very warm, so the shade of the building helps keep the shop decent. You see all sorts of people walking by toward the main market. Sometimes the guys from the station across the way come over when they finally have a break. We have our regulars who have been coming for years, and they usually just sit and wait their turn without saying much. It is just a normal place where men come to get their hair sorted out. We don’t have fancy decorations, just the basic stuff needed for the job. The sink in the back sometimes drips if you don’t turn it tight. That is just how it is here.
