Lakshmi Boutique

We are tucked away in Flat No 402 of Poornima Mansion. The address is H No 1-9-295/32/5/A, which is quite a lot to write down on a package. We’re in Vidyanagar, right on Street No 15. It’s a residential building, so it feels more like a home than a shop. Lakshmi Boutique is mostly just one big room filled with different types of cloth and several sewing machines. We have piles of lace and stacks of buttons on almost every flat surface. The sun hits the balcony in the afternoon, and that’s usually when we take a small break for tea. Being on the fourth floor means we get a bit of a breeze, which is helpful during the Hyderabad summers. Sometimes the lift stops working and we have to carry everything up the stairs, which isn't great for the knees. We don’t have any fancy marketing or big posters. Most people find us through word of mouth or by just seeing the small sign downstairs. We spend hours hunched over the fabric, making sure the hemlines are okay and the colors match up. It’s just a few of us here, and we know our customers by name. It’s a busy little spot, especially before the festival season starts. We keep the scrap fabric in big bins under the cutting table for later use.
