Kurtan Kurta

Kurtan Kurta is located on the 1st floor of No. 2- 4- 499 in Ramgopalpet, over in the Kalasiguda area. We spend our time surrounded by fabric and thread. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs but it’s a good space once you’re up here. We mostly focus on kurtas, as the name says. There’s usually the sound of sewing machines humming in the background and someone cutting cloth on the big table. We aren't a big factory, just a local shop where things are made by hand. The neighborhood of Ramgopalpet is pretty lively and there’s always something going on downstairs. We’ve been here for a while and know the other tailors and cloth merchants nearby. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of thread and have to go hunting for it. It’s not a polished boutique with fancy lights; it’s a workshop where we actually make things. We have piles of different materials everywhere. We just try to make decent clothes that people will actually want to wear. Kalasiguda has a lot of history with textiles, so it feels right to be here. If you come by, you’ll likely see us busy with a measuring tape or a pair of shears. We keep it simple and just focus on the sewing. It's dusty with all the lint and fabric scraps, but it's where we work.
