Bhagyalaxmi Saree House

Our shop is at number 316 in the Private Market area. It is a busy place with lots of other shops around, so it gets quite loud during the daytime. We spend most of our hours folding sarees and putting them back into their plastic covers after people have looked at them. Bhagyalaxmi Saree House is not a very big space, but we have managed to cram a lot of stock into the cupboards and onto the display tables. The fans run all day to keep the heat away, but it still gets warm when there are more than three people inside. Sometimes we sit on the floor to sort through the new arrivals that come in big bundles. It is a bit messy at times, especially on Mondays when we are trying to organize everything from the weekend. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where every single color and pattern is kept. Most of the neighbors in the market know us by now because we have been here a while. We usually have our lunch together in the back corner while watching the people pass by the front door. It’s just a simple life of selling clothes and talking to the locals who come in looking for something for a wedding or a small party. There is always a lot of dust from the street, but we try to keep the fabrics clean. We don't have any fancy computer systems here, just a paper bill book and a calculator. It’s a lot of folding and unfolding, but it’s what we do.
