Free Lancer Fashion Designer

This is the space where Namita Asthana works as a Free Lancer Fashion Designer. I am located in Vikaspuri, specifically at Plot No. 48, which is right next to the Water Works Department in the S.R. Nagar area of Hyderabad. It is a bit of a busy spot because of the government office nearby, but my studio is tucked away enough to get some work done. I have been doing this for a while, mostly working with fabrics and sketches all day. It is not a big company with a hundred employees. It is mostly just me and sometimes a helper or two when things get really busy before the wedding season. The place is usually covered in thread, scraps of cloth, and half-finished patterns. I don't really have a showroom or anything fancy. People usually find out about me through word of mouth or by just stopping by the house. It is a very hands-on job. I spend a lot of time on the sewing machine or at the cutting table. Sometimes the power goes out and I have to wait to finish a piece, but you get used to that here. It is honest work and I like the fact that I can see something go from a drawing to a real garment right here in my own workspace. No big corporate goals, just making clothes that people can actually wear. It is just my daily life.
