Raj Shree Designer Sarees

We are located right in the middle of Begum Bazar Chatri, which is probably one of the most crowded places you could pick. Our shop is full of sarees stacked from the floor to the ceiling. It’s a mess of colors and fabrics like silk and cotton. We don’t have much space to move around, especially when we start unfolding the sarees for a customer to see. The fans are always on high but it still gets hot because of all the people in the market. You can hear the shouting of other vendors and the honking of scooters outside all day long. We have been here for years, and the floor tiles are cracked in a few places. We don't really do fancy window displays; we just put the newest designs out where people can touch them. It’s a lot of folding and unfolding every single day. Sometimes we lose track of a specific piece in the piles, but we usually find it eventually. It’s a very traditional way of selling. We don't have fixed prices written on everything, so there is always a bit of talking back and forth. It’s exhausting work being on your feet all day in the heat of Begum Bazar, but seeing the bright colors makes it a bit better. We just keep the shop open until the market starts to quiet down in the evening.
