Ambika Handlooms

You can find Ambika Handlooms at H. No. 11-14-352 in the Sirinagar area. It is basically a house that we have turned into our working space. We have the handlooms set up right there. It is a lot of thread and wood and the sound of the shuttles going back and forth. We don't use the big automated machines you see in the city factories. Everything we do is done by hand. It takes a lot longer that way, but it is just how we have always done it. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so it is a bit quieter than the main markets. We have a few local people who come in to help with the weaving. It is a small team. We don't really have a big sign or a glass front for the shop. People usually find out about us from someone else who lives nearby. We spend a lot of time just checking the threads and making sure the patterns are coming out okay. Some days are slow, especially when the weather is damp and the yarn doesn't behave. But we just keep at it. We are not trying to be the biggest place in town. We just want to make enough fabric to keep the looms running. It is practical work and it keeps our hands busy. That is really all there is to it. We just wake up, start the looms, and spend our day with the fabric until it is time to close.
