Nishi Photo Works

Nishi Photo Works is located over in Pragathi Enclave, which is in the Old Alwal area of Kanajiguda. It’s a small studio where we handle a lot of local photography needs. Most of our days are spent either behind the camera or sitting at the computer editing pictures. We have a few backdrops and lights set up in the room, but it’s nothing too extravagant. People from the enclave often come in for quick passport photos or to ask about covering a family function. Old Alwal has a nice, established feel to it, and we like being part of the neighborhood. Sometimes the shop is empty and we’re just organizing our files, and other times three families show up at once and it gets a bit crowded. We’ve seen a lot of changes in how people take photos, moving from film to digital, but the basic job is still the same. You just try to capture the moment without making it look too stiff. We aren't trying to be some high-end fashion studio; we just do regular work for regular people. The lighting can be tricky depending on the time of day, so we’re always fiddling with the curtains. It’s a nice way to spend the day, meeting neighbors and seeing them at different stages of their lives. We just keep the lenses clean and wait for the next person to walk through the door. Sometimes we have to stay late just to finish printing out a batch of photos.
