Akshara Boutque

Our boutique is located at Plot No 4 in Survey No 8/5, and it is a place where you will always find piles of fabric and the sound of a sewing machine running. We didn't start with a big fancy showroom. Instead, we have this space where we keep all our threads, needles, and rolls of cloth. The floors usually have little snips of silk and cotton scattered around by the end of the afternoon. We spend most of our time measuring people and sketching out ideas on scraps of paper. It gets very hectic when there is a festival or a wedding coming up in the neighborhood. We often have to work late under the bright yellow lights to make sure everything is finished on time. My hands often have little pinpricks on the fingers from working quickly with the needles. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that; people usually find us because they saw a dress their friend was wearing. We like to chat with the customers while they pick out their colors and talk about what they want. It is a personal way to work, and we know many of the families around here. Sometimes we run out of a specific lace or button and have to go hunting for it, but we always manage to make things work in the end.
