Nandalal Institution Chatra

We are located down in Serampore, right at 2 Chatra Dharmatala Byelane. It’s a bit of a winding path to get here, especially if you aren’t from around the Hooghly district. The institution is a bit of an old landmark in this part of Chatra. It’s a sturdy building, but you can see the age in the bricks and the way the gates creak. Every morning, the area gets quite lively when everyone starts arriving. We don’t have any big corporate banners hanging up, just the name on the wall. The rooms inside are plain with simple wooden furniture that’s been around for decades. We spend our time managing the daily schedules and making sure the building stays in one piece. The byelane is usually quiet in the afternoons, save for the occasional rickshaw passing by. We have a small courtyard where some of us sit during the break. We deal with all sorts of administrative tasks and local education matters without much fuss. The windows stay open to let in the breeze from the trees nearby, though it gets a bit dusty when the wind picks up. It’s just a regular place doing regular work for the people in the Serampore area. We don't try to be anything fancy or modern.
