Jogamaya Memorial Institute

We've been here in Singur for quite some time now. People around Hooghly know the building at No 2. It isn't a fancy place, just a school where local kids come every morning. Most of us who work here grew up in this area or nearby towns. We keep things pretty simple. The classrooms have the usual desks and chairs, and the playground gets a bit dusty when it hasn't rained in a while. Jogamaya Memorial Institute isn't trying to be anything other than a place for learning. Some days are loud with children running around, and other days are quiet when they're all focused on their books. We try to keep the gates open on time and make sure everything is ready before the first bell rings. It’s a lot of work looking after so many students, but it’s what we do. You’ll find us right near the main road. The local shops know us well. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just open the windows wider to let the breeze in. It’s just how life goes here. We don't have big fancy posters or anything like that. We just focus on the daily routine. The parents stop by to talk about their kids, and we listen. It's a community thing, really. We've seen a lot of students pass through these halls over the years. Some come back to visit, which is nice.
